That Awkward Moment is a sweet and funny showing of male friendships if you can put up with it following an all too easy to guess rom-com formula.

When Vera (Jessica Lucas) tells Mikey (Michael B. Jordan) that she wants a divorce, his friends Jason (Zac Efron) and Daniel (Miles Teller) offer a “stay single” pact. Right away, Jason encounters genuine feelings with Ellie (Imogen Poots), while Daniel falls for his friend Chelsea (Mackenzie Davis).

From the moment each guy’s story starts to set up, you’ll be able to predict its whole journey just from knowing typical rom-com romances. However, most of the time, this dynamic is shown from the point of view of three female friends. The switch to the male perspective and seeing them share their feelings freshens it up a bit.

Final say: Only a little awkward. ★★★☆☆
