Taking on a new literary classic in this sequel to Gnomeo & Juliet, Sherlock Gnomes isn’t as entertaining as the first but has a few twists to keep you surprised.

Gnomeo (James McAvoy) and Juliet (Emily Blunt) have moved to London with their families, but one day everyone but the couple goes missing. Sherlock Gnomes (Johnny Depp) and Watson (Chiwetel Ejiofor) arrive to investigate the disappearance with Moriarty (Jamie Demetriou) being a top suspect.

It’s clear early on what one of the plot twists will be and when it comes, it’s without shock. However, there are several more that happen after that, which makes the story more compelling.

The animation is cute, but not overly intricate, while the voice acting is sufficient but not going to any great lengths past the actors’ normal voices.

Final say: A fun case. ★★★☆☆
