While boasting a solid comedic cast, Grown Ups is left lacking with a flat script and a reliance on outdated jokes about women, weight and age.
When Coach Buzzer (Blake Clark) dies, Lenny (Adam Sandler), Eric (Kevin James), Kurt (Chris Rock), Marcus (David Spade) and Rob (Rob Schneider) – reunite to honor his legacy and spend a weekend together.
Much like the out of shape basketball players, the actors’ comedy could use some work. The kids in the film get the most laughs, but even most of those are built off their naivety.
When this came out, maybe the jokes were more accepted. However, after years of progression when it comes to ageism, body positivity and gender equality, the men in the movie seem like the uncles at reunions you try to avoid.
Final say: This needs to grow up. ★☆☆☆☆
