Despite combining the comedic talents of Reese Witherspoon and Sofía Vergara, Hot Pursuit wastes their talent with an unfunny script and stereotypical characters.
Felipe and Daniella Riva (Vincent Laresca & Vergara) have to testify against cartel leader Vicente Cortez (Joaquín Cosío) in court. When Felipe is murdered, Daniella is put under the protection of Officer Rose Cooper (Witherspoon). Realizing Cooper’s coworkers are dirty cops, the two go on the run.
It’s hard to resist Witherspoon and Vergara. They have their moments and even when the script is weak, they manage to bring laughs. However, this script is a female buddy comedy written by two men, and the lack of feminine knowledge is obvious.
Vergara’s Daniella relies on her sex appeal, while Witherspoon’s Cooper is a robotic officer, and they’re basically one-note characters.
Final say: Runs cold. ★★☆☆☆
