With the dynamic pairing of Emma Thompson and Pierce Brosnan, The Love Punch is a silly comedy that’s completely ridiculous but somehow charming.
When Richard Jones’ (Brosnan) company is sold and the pension plan is lost, he and ex-wife Kate (Thompson) go to France to confront the corrupt new owner Vincent Kruger (Laurent Lafitte). They employ the help of their friends Penelope (Celia Imrie) and Jerry (Timothy Spall) to pull off a heist.
As the film continues, the story keeps getting more wild. It’s entirely unbelievable and will have you rolling your eyes, while also laughing in good spirit.
Thompson and Brosnan are a fun pairing and have great chemistry. Brosnan gets to employ some of his James Bond skills, while Thompson shows off a different side than usually seen.
Final say: Go into it expecting a bad plot. ★★★☆☆
