An exciting spin-off from the family of one of literature’s great detectives, Enola Holmes provides Millie Bobby Brown an action-filled and comedic vehicle outside of Stranger Things.
When Eudoria Holmes (Helena Bonham Carter) disappears, Enola (Brown) is reunited with her older brothers Sherlock (Henry Cavill) and Mycroft (Sam Claflin) but soon leaves their care to search for their mother.
The film often breaks the fourth wall and while this is a risky choice, it benefits from the connection Enola makes with the audience. Brown is wonderfully strong and lets you into her character even just from her changing facial expressions.
With having two cases afoot, there’s never confusion in which you’re following or one that’s favored over the other. The script and direction keep the excitement going while you learn more about each story.
Final say: No mystery about this. ★★★★★
