A funny film about female friendship, Women Talking Dirty succeeds thanks to Helena Bonham Carter and Gina McKee’s wonderful chemistry.

When pregnant Cora (Bonham Carter) and love scorned Ellen (McKee) meet each other in a pub, they immediately strike up a friendship. Cora accidentally sleeps with Ellen’s husband Daniel (James Purefoy) before knowing who he is and becomes pregnant again without telling Ellen about the father.

Cora and Ellen are very different characters, but that doesn’t hinder their connection. Bonham Carter brings a freeness to Cora and allows her to be wild and manic, while McKee keeps Ellen more contained. Even if you haven’t had a friend that was your complete opposite, the pairing will still feel familiar.

Isla Dewar’s screenplay – based on her book – keeps the story moving and there’s never a dull moment.

Final say: Keep talking. ★★★★☆
