Though based on a Roald Dahl story, it’s clear early on that Fantastic Mr. Fox is a stop-motion film made for adults rather than children – which isn’t a bad thing.
Realizing that he’s entering the final phase of his life, Mr. Fox (George Clooney) decides to go on a final killing spree and hunt from the local three farmers (Michael Gambon, Robin Hurlstone & Hugo Guinness) against his wife’s (Meryl Streep) wishes, which sends everyone into pandemonium.
Despite being an animated film, Fantastic Mr. Fox encapsulates everything that makes a film unmistakably Wes Anderson. From the script to the production design to the shots made, it is Anderson’s quirky style to a tee.
The storyline is a bit wild, but great vocal performances – mainly from Clooney and Gambon – keep it grounded.
Final say: Fantastic, Mr. Fox. ★★★★★
