Though it should be a sexy rom-com, Alfie doesn’t come off as anything more than misogynistic and depressing.
Alfie (Jude Law) is a British womanizer living in New York City where he keeps women like the married Dorie (Jane Krakowski) and single mom Julie (Marisa Tomei) on his hook. His actions get him in trouble, and he swears to change his life, but can he?
Law’s Alfie breaks the fourth wall throughout the movie, and it often feels like an uncomfortable conversation with an acquaintance that you’re trying to get out of. For most of the film, Alfie uses women as objects and keeps emotions at bay.
However, every time a good emotional moment can inspire change, he ignores it. You won’t want to watch someone who doesn’t want help.
