While Sinbad could have been an epic animated adventure, low stakes, an unsatisfying payoff and elementary CGI make this a legend that could stay in the past.
Sinbad (Brad Pitt) and his former childhood friend Prince Proteus (Joseph Fiennes) are both trying to obtain the Book of Peace. Goddess of Discord and Chaos Eris (Michelle Pfeiffer) steals the book disguised as Sinbad. To save his and Proteus’ life, Sinbad must venture to Tartarus to get the book back.
The book blends elements of Greek mythology and Arabian folk tales but washes out most of the Arabian culture. And when the magic of both tales comes in to play, it’s normally accompanied by CGI creatures that, at best, look like early PC video games.
Pitt feels miscast in a one-note performance and comedy that consistently falls flat.
Final say: What’s legendary? ★★☆☆☆
