As an ode to Hollywood of the past, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood might not feel like a Quentin Tarantino film until the end, but it’s by far one of his best.
Rick Dalton (Leonardo DiCaprio) is an actor who fears his fame is fading. He lives next to rising star Sharon Tate (Margot Robbie) and is driven around by his friend and stunt double Cliff Booth (Brad Pitt).
Anyone who knows the name Sharon Tate knows of her tragic end at the hands of Manson followers. Throughout the film, Manson (Damon Herriman) is introduced alongside his cult, but Tarantino makes movie magic by uniquely changing the ending.
With the sets and costumes, you’re truly taken back in time. Pitt is also brilliant in his role, especially in the climactic scene.
Final say: Tarantino does Hollywood right. ★★★★★
