In Tomorrow Never Dies, leads Pierce Brosnan and Jonathan Pryce are overshadowed by a mesmerizing Michelle Yeoh in her English-language breakout role.

M (Judi Dench) becomes suspicious after media mogul Elliot Carver (Pryce) gains knowledge of world news before MI6. She sends James Bond (Brosnan) to investigate, and he pairs with Chinese agent Wai Lin (Yeoh) who’s on the same case.

Utilizing her martial arts skills, Yeoh proves to be more than a sidekick so it’s almost annoying when Wai Lin falls into the same Bond formula of falling in love with and needing to be saved by James.

Pryce’s villain is both over-the-top and underwhelming. He often overacts and while you can understand his plan in an early stage of the internet era, there are many cracks in it that you’ll question.

Final say: Bond himself is largely forgettable. ★★★☆☆
