Following the real-life drama behind making the Disney classic Mary Poppins, the dynamic performances in Saving Mr. Banks bring additional magic to a captivating story.
P.L. Travers (Emma Thompson) reluctantly agrees to meet with Walt Disney (Tom Hanks) about making Mary Poppins into a film. Against the idea, Travers does everything she can to stop the process. Throughout the process, she has flashbacks to her childhood with her loving, yet alcoholic father (Colin Farrell).
The present and past feel like two different films that could have both succeeded on their own. But together, they add deep layers P.L.’s coldness. Thompson is brilliant in the lead role and will take you on an emotional journey.
For fans of Mary Poppins, it’s a great behind the scenes look that’ll have you reminiscing on the film.
Final say: A battle worth watching. ★★★★☆
