Answering the question of what happens once Peter Pan grows up, Hook is a fantastic fantasy film for the entire family even if it becomes overly sentimental.
While on a trip to visit Granny Wendy (Maggie Smith) in London, Peter Banning’s (Robin Williams) children Jack (Charlie Korsmo) and Maggie (Amber Scott) are kidnapped by Captain Hook (Dustin Hoffman). Tinker Bell (Julia Roberts) brings Peter to Neverland where he remembers he was once Peter Pan.
Though story issues arise with Tinker Bell’s romantic love for Peter and the lengthiness of a family film, the good outshines the bad. Williams and Hoffman are both fantastic in their roles with this potentially being the best performance of Hoffman’s career.
Production elements from costume and set design to John Williams’ score make the movie a spectacle on all levels.
Final say: Never gets old. ★★★★☆
