Broadway Revival Cast: Laurence Fishburne, Sam Rockwell, Darren Criss, Ray Anthony Thomas, Jordan Lage & Sean Carvajal
Performed in Broadway’s Circle in the Square theater, you’re instantly immersed of the fast-paced action in American Buffalo.
Don (Laurence Fishburne) sells a buffalo nickel from his junk shop. Later, he and his employee Bobby (Darren Criss) realize the coin may be worth more and plan to steal it back. Don’s poker buddy Teach (Sam Rockwell) learns of the plan and makes himself part of the team.
All three actors are perfect in their roles. Fishburne commands the stage with his booming voice and stage presence, Rockwell plays the loud drunk to insanity, and Criss is comedically naive against the heavyweights.
The script moves quickly so it’s necessary to pay close attention to the drama unfolding between characters. You may get lost in the story, but it’s part of the excitement.
Final say: A trio of fantastic actors. ★★★★☆
