Though the film is lacking in plot, A Prairie Home Companion features an incredible ensemble of actors and music performances that will keep you entertained.
When the Fitzgerald Theater, home to the long-running live radio variety show A Prairie Home Companion, gets scheduled for demolition, the Axeman (Tommy Lee Jones) is brought in to determine whether to save the show.
Written by and starring the real A Prairie Home Companion host Garrison Keillor, the film benefits from showing behind-the-scenes action. However, nothing feels overly developed and the noir-like appearances of Guy (Kevin Kline) and the Dangerous Woman (Virginia Madsen) feel out of place.
However, the partnerships of Meryl Streep and Lily Tomlin as well as Woody Harrelson and John C. Reilly are fantastic. The actors play off each other well and save the film.
Final say: Sweet if not exciting. ★★★☆☆
