Mixing religious awakenings and supernatural powers, Midnight Mass is one of the best shows Netflix has put forward.

Riley Flynn (Zach Gilford) returns to his childhood home on Crockett Island after serving time for killing a girl while drunk driving. When Monsignor Pruitt leaves the island due to failing health, Father Paul Hill (Hamish Linklater) arrives and begins performing miraculous acts.

The hair and makeup team create the best visual effects as you start to notice tiny differences (or large differences in a few cases) of character aging. At some point, you’ll realize it happening and wonder when it started.

By showing how people will give in to what they don’t know, the show creates a strong message on both grief and faith. It’s unsettling from the first episode, but downright frightening by the end.

Final say: Praise be. ★★★★★
