With the first comedic film in the DC Universe, Shazam! is a fantastic action film that exists on a smaller-scale and finds the real meaning behind family.

Billy Batson (Asher Angel) is chosen by Shazam (Djimon Hounsou) to take his powers and become a superhero to take down Dr. Thaddeus Sivana (Mark Strong), who possesses the Seven Deadly Sins. In his new form, Shazam (Zachary Levi) and his foster brother Freddy Freeman (Jack Dylan Grazer) work together to discover his powers.

Levi is hilarious in the lead role and embodies a 14-year-old in an adult’s body perfectly. He and Grazer share great chemistry and comedic timing.

Combining action, laughter and a few teary-eyed moments, this film is a lighter entry – both in heart and in coloring – for DC and easily one of their best.
