On its third and final outing, Descendants 3 introduces new villains to the series while bringing back other characters with varying degrees of success.

Mal (Dove Cameron), Carlos (Cameron Boyce), Evie (Sofia Carson) and Jay (Booboo Stewart) are welcoming the next set of villain kids to Auradon when Hades (Cheyenne Jackson) tries to break through the portal. Audrey (Sarah Jeffrey) turns villainous, and Mal must team up with Uma (China Anne McClain) to stop her.

Making Audrey the main villain of the film feels both predictable and out of left field. Jeffrey’s lip synch to “Queen of Mean” doesn’t match her emotions to the recording making it the hardest to watch in the film. There also seems like a bit of queer subtext with Jay and Gil (Dylan Playfair) that’s never explored.

Final say: Needs a bit of fine tuning. ★★★☆☆
