The Fast & Furious franchise returns for a second round with a mostly new cast and car chases that will keep you entertained even if the story loses you.

After running away from the law, ex-cop Brian O’Conner (Paul Walker) is arrested in Miami and is provided with a deal to expunge all charges if he goes undercover to take down Argentinian drug lord Carter Verone (Cole Hauser). Brian counters to choose his own partner and brings hometown friend Roman Pearce (Tyrese Gibson) with him.

If you’re not paying close attention, you’ll miss what Carter is wanted for. And that makes sense because the story is not the focus here. Instead, racing scenes are what’s made most important and they don’t disappoint. However, when practical effects are sidelined for rough CGI, it’s distracting.

Final say: Fast, furious, not much else. ★★☆☆☆
