Of an Age is everything you expect it to be: romantic, well-acted and unfortunately heartbreaking in the end.
Kol (Elias Anton) and Adam (Thom Green) connect for the first time when on saving a hungover Ebony (Hattie Hook), Kol’s best friend and Adam’s sister. They fall for each other quickly, but Adam is moving out of the country the next day.
The screenplay makes Kol a hugely relatable character. He’s young and not confident about coming to terms with his sexuality, and when he realizes Adam is gay, there’s a struggle of fear and hope that’s so honest.
Having the film split into two chapters over a decade apart allows you to see the growth and change in both characters. You might be disappointed where they end up, but it’s life.
Final say: If only it were a fairytale. ★★★★☆
