It took over a decade for the Avatar sequel to come out and while the story may not live up to the first, the spectacle is as strong as ever.

Fifteen years after permanently becoming Na’Vi, Jake Sully (Sam Worthington) has a family with his wife Neytiri (Zoe Saldaña). Human Colonel Miles Quartich (Stephen Lang) is revived in Na’Vi form and seeks to kill Jake. When they’re attacked, Jake and his family seek refuge with the water clan Metkayina.

There are character issues – like the reviving of Quartich, the under-development of Spider (Jack Champion) and Lo’ak’s (Britain Dalton) inferior complex – that add to a weak revenge storyline.

However, director James Cameron once again creates a breathtaking new world with stellar CGI and 3D effects that make you feel like you’re in that world.

Final say: The experience outweighs the story. ★★★★☆
