Season 5 of Downton Abbey has many romantic moments – some for the better and some for the worst – making it one of the more heartfelt seasons of the series.

After some shenanigans, Rose (Lily James) finds a potential suitor in Atticus (Matt Barber). Violet (Maggie Smith) and Cora (Elizabeth McGovern) are both shocked by men who are pursuing them. Anna (Joanne Froggatt) and Mr. Bates (Brendan Coyle) are both suspected to know more than they’re admitting about the death of Mr. Green (Season 4’s Nigel Harman).

James’ Rose has a considerable amount of strong character development. Both Smith and Penelope Wilton (as Isobel) have great emotional moments that are not normally seen from characters of their age.

Unfortunately, we spend time in prison again and you’ll wish the prison storylines would finally fade away.

Final say: A beautiful continuation. ★★★★☆
