Though it has its moments and features a star-studded voice cast, The Addams Family suffers from lack of originality.
Margaux (Allison Janney) is a home-renovator who is shocked to learn that the Addams family lives in the background of her perfect neighborhood. Wednesday (Chloë Grace Moretz) seeks normalcy, while Pugsley (Finn Wolfhard) trains for a family tradition.
This doesn’t feel like a typical Addams Family production. There’s a lack of family support that the story always strives to portray, especially in the portrayals of Gomez (Oscar Isaac) and Morticia (Charlize Theron) whom have almost no chemistry. And while Wednesday is supposed to be monotone, Moretz gives her almost zero personality.
You can tell the story is intended for child audiences, which will make their parents who’ve known the titular family for years dissatisfied.
Final say: A family let down. ★★☆☆☆
