The first Magic Mike had more story and less stripping, while this sequel has more stripping and less story. If I’m honest, I prefer how the sequel plays out better.
Three years after leaving the stripping world, Mike (Channing Tatum) reunites with the Kings of Tampa where they tell him they want to end their career on a high at the Myrtle Beach male stripping convention. Mike joins his old crew and encourages them to create new routines instead of recycling old ones.
Other than the men finding ways to merge their passions into their dances, there’s very little storyline here. None of the new characters have any development either. But it’s a fun, road trip comedy that oozes sexiness. Tatum doesn’t disappoint, but Matt Bomer and Donald Glover’s singing routines may take the cake.
Final say: Just enjoy it. ★★★★☆
