In the sequel to the 2000 hit, the otherness of mutants is pushed even further resulting in what happens when we don’t embrace differences.

When scientist Colonel William Stryker (Brian Cox) kidnaps Professor X (Patrick Stewart), he uses his mutant son Jason (Michael Reid MacKay) to brainwash the professor into killing all mutants. The X-Men must team up with Magneto (Ian McKellen) to save Professor X and protect the mutant race.

Major improvements are made from the original film with a stronger script and less of the comic book sound effects being used. Hugh Jackman continues to be the most enthralling character as Logan takes on more responsibility with the team.

However, the film has a similar plot to the first – only more intensified. It would be great to see these heroes in a different story.

Final say: Growing stronger. ★★★★☆
