Though Kimberly Akimbo‘s emotional core doesn’t pack as much of a punch as expected, the show is a breath of fresh air with its originality.
Kimberly (Victoria Clark) is your average teenage girl with crazy parents (Steven Boyer & Alli Mauzey), except for the fact that she suffers from a condition that makes her age rapidly. Looking like she’s in her 60s, Kimberly has a hard time making friends but Seth (Justin Cooley) changes that.
Clark embodies a teenager fantastically and is a joy to watch in every moment. Cooley – in his Broadway debut – is a fantastic breakout who will keep you smiling, and Bonnie Milligan is fabulous with her belting vocals.
The set isn’t anything out of the ordinary, but the scenes where the characters ice skate are brilliant and look effortless.
Final say: A stand out amongst Broadway’s commercialism. ★★★★☆
