Loosely based on Greek mythology, Immortals is a visually arresting action film, but don’t expect much from the plot.
King Hyperion (Mickey Rourke) is in search of the Epirus Bow that will allow him to unleash the Titans and wage a war against the Gods. Zeus (Luke Evans) believes the commoner Theseus (Henry Cavill) will be the one to defeat Hyperion.
While the use of both high-speed and slow-motion are expertly utilized to emphasize parts of the fights, there’s not too much to the storyline outside of many gory battle scenes.
In fact, what is used from the storyline is heavily borrowed from Greek mythology but doesn’t resemble any story you’d find in a book. It doesn’t make sense to create an entirely new one instead of presenting one that’s already strongly written.
Final say: Immortal, this film is not. ★★☆☆☆
