By telling the true story of a civil jury taking on its nation’s military, Argentina, 1985 is a powerful film that reminds audiences to learn from the past.
After the end of Argentina’s military dictatorship, prosecutors Julio César Strassera (Ricardo Darín) and Luis Moreno Ocampo (Peter Lanzani) are assigned by the government to make a case against the military junta, which is being accused of crimes against humanity.
Though the film features typical courtroom dramatics, the emotional core is in the testimonies of the people who were personally affected by the military’s tactics. Hearing of the torture some faced or those whose loved ones were still missing makes you sick.
For those unfamiliar with the history, you’ll be on the edge of your seat hoping that justice will prevail.
Final say: A reminder of what can happen “nunca más.” ★★★★★
