The second film of the DCOM series Descendants introduces its audience to new villainous children but fails to capture the same spirit of the first movie.

King Ben (Mitchell Hope) is about to introduce Mal (Dove Cameron) as a Lady of his Court. Feeling overwhelmed, she returns to the Isle of the Lost, Ben is captured by Uma (China Anne McClain), the daughter of Ursula, who wants revenge for being left behind.

Many of the sets in this film look fake and something made for a stage production. The transition from spoken dialogue to musical numbers consistently feels forced with their vocals in the songs – especially Sofia Carson – sounding overly autotuned.

McClain and Thomas Doherty (as Harry, the son of Captain Hook) are welcome additions with Doherty’s acting being the best in the film.

Final say: Something’s descending. ★★★☆☆
