Though this political satire somewhat predicted the future with an unqualified television personality becoming President of the United States, the content is weak and doesn’t know whether it wants to be a comedy, romance or thriller.
Comedic news host Tom Dobbs (Robin Williams) decides to run for president as an independent. A new voting machine from the Delacroy company is being introduced and employee Eleanor Green (Laura Linney) notices an error in the system that she believes got Dobbs elected.
Though the film features a fantastic cast, they get lost in the script. Williams is able to bring in his standard comedy but it’s very divisive with the drama in the story. Linney’s Eleanor is made to seem crazy by all the males involved, which is just lazy with the sole female lead.
Final say: Dud of the year. ★★☆☆☆
