With racist depictions of Native Americans and iconic characters that aren’t that likable, Peter Pan is an interesting film to revisit despite beautiful animation.
Being told that it’s her last night before she must grow up, Wendy (Kathryn Beaumont) is visited by Peter Pan (Bobby Driscoll) who takes her to Neverland where she’ll never have to grow up. In Neverland, Peter is hunted by the vicious Captain Hook (Hans Conreid).
Even though Peter Pan and Tinker Bell are long-standing famous faces from the Disney canon, neither present nice qualities. Peter is very self-centered, and Tinker Bell is rude to Wendy for most of the film.
However, the scenes of flying over London and the gold pirate ship near the end are unrivaled. They still give a warm feeling that’ll make you believe in magic.
Final say: Needs to grow up. ★★★☆☆
