From the start, The Good Nurse never quite finds the right pacing making this slow-burn thriller just slow.

Overwhelmed at work and at home, Nurse Amy Loughren (Jessica Chastain) is relieved when Charles Cullen (Eddie Redmayne) is brought onto the staff. They become fast friends, but Amy becomes suspicious of Charles after a few mysterious deaths happen in their ward.

Chastain and Redmayne are a dynamic duo who play well off each other. Despite Chastain’s Amy having her doubts, you see the genuine connection they have, which makes her heartbreak about his truth so much worse.

However, the film lacks energy on all fronts. When Nnamdi Asomugha’s Detective Baldwin yells at Parkfield’s Linda Garran (Kim Dickens), it’s a breath of fresh air. While the script may have looked commanding on paper, it doesn’t translate well.

Final say: Good, not great. ★★★☆☆
