Nick and Charlie – the couple at the center of Alice Oseman’s popular graphic novel series Heartstopper – return in a short story that’s written instead of being told through illustrations.

Charlie is nervous of his future with Nick as school is nearing its end and all Nick can talk about is going to university. Charlie fears that he’ll be left behind and everyone will be right that long distance can’t work.

It’s interesting reading from their separate narration in these novels. Due to its usual graphic form, there’s not much time to dive deep into inner thoughts. But the content of this story needed the words instead of the pictures.

While Nick (more than Charlie) seems to have out of character moments, this novella dives deeper into their relationship and allows both to be flawed.

Final say: Almost stopped my heart. ★★★★☆
