This made-for-television movie from HBO explores a case that we’ve all heard about and takes a look into the life of a man who ruined others.
In 2008, news broke that stockbroker Bernie Madoff (Robert De Niro) had pulled off a ponzi scheme that robbed $65 billion from his unsuspecting victims. Reporter Diana B. Henriques (played by herself) was the first to interview Madoff in prison.
De Niro and Pfeiffer give incredible performances as the Madoffs. Bringing the essence of a man who doesn’t seem to have emotions, De Niro plays Madoff as the villain he is. And Pfeiffer shines as his wife who seems genuinely blindsided.
The story will continue to blow your mind – as it did when it broke. You’ll question how it was covered for so long.
Final say: An interesting story makes for interesting television. ★★★★☆
