This is a musical comedy that television has never seen before.

Rebecca Bunch (Rachel Bloom) is miserable in her New York lawyer lifestyle and is looking for a sign when she runs into her camp ex-boyfriend, Josh Chan (Vincent Rodriguez III). Knowing that he’ll make her happy, she drops everything and moves to West Covina, California without Josh knowing it.

It’s clear from the start that Rebecca isn’t fully there mentally and she’s chasing a pipe dream, but that doesn’t make it any less entertaining.

Bloom brings laughable, but very true songs – sung by the multitalented cast members – to help move the show along. The first episode’s “The Sexy Getting Ready Song” is among the best and most memorable. Through the craziness, you’ll realize how much you relate to her.

Final say: Definitely out there, but so worth it. ★★★★☆
