Ten years after winning American Idol, Carrie Underwood is giving us some of her best music yet.
Storyteller is true to its title. Each song is its own little story that contributes to the whole of the album. There are ballads that show off the sweet qualities of Underwood’s voice including the Sam Hunt duet “Heartbeat” as well as rough songs that show off the rock qualities of her voice like “Choctaw County Affair.”
The one issue I have with Underwood’s music in general is that every song is so serious. I want to see her fun side come out, like fellow country artists Kellie Pickler or Kelsea Ballerini, and this album doesn’t do it.
Regardless, this album showcases why she is one of the most successful Idol winners and country female artists.
Final say: Underwood tells her story beautifully. ★★★★☆
